What does a page need to be quoted?
Google says there are no extra requirements to appear in its AI features. A page needs to be indexed and eligible to show a snippet, with its important content in text. Beyond that, our approach is practical: make the answer easy to find and easy to lift. These steps are our reading, not Google's rules.
Why start with the question?
Pew Research Center found that people were more likely to end their session on a page when an AI summary appeared. When the answer is in front of people, they stop there. So write the page for the question, not for the keyword.
How do you do it?
- Write down the real questions. What do customers ask on the phone, by email or at the counter? Use their words.
- Give each important question its own page or section, with the question as a heading.
- Answer in the first two sentences. Then explain.
- Put the facts in plain text. Business name, place, service, hours and how to book. Not only in an image or a slider.
- Say who it is for and where. A good answer names its limits.
- Show a date and an owner. Review each page on a schedule, and update it when facts change.
Example
A page called "Do I need a referral to see a physio?" should begin with a direct answer for your clinic, then say what to bring, how to book and what it costs if you publish prices. A page called "Our services" that lists treatments without answering a question gives a reader, and a machine, little to quote.
What does this article not tell you?
- We have no evidence that this structure makes an AI quote you. It makes the answer easy to find and quote, which is what you can control.
- Google's page is undated and covers Google only.
- The Pew study is American, from March 2025.
